Anatomy & Appearance
Wolven Cats are shapeshifters. They can shift from the feral form described here, to an "anthro" or werewolf-type form, to an almost human form. Ears and tail do not change at all between forms. Because of their ability, wings are not always shown.
General Appearance
Coloring
- Fur is striped (like a tiger) or solid-ish (like a wolf) (Never have spots)
- Natural fur colors including shades of black, white, browns, tans, grays
- Scales can be almost any color
- Natural skin/flesh color including pinks, tans, black, or grays
- Bone/teeth/horn/spike color is always white or near white
* Fur dying can be a thing for unnatural colors, but very rarely, as WCs are not usually concerned with how they look. (They think they look the best anyway!)
Main Body
-About the size of a large dog
-Mostly canine in main body structure (less on the legs, see below)
-About 90% covered in fur, may have about 10% scales on body not including wings
-Spikes, horns, etc are common, but must have bone structure beneath them
Head
-Canine in shape
-Canine-type nose and ears
-Eyes have slit pupils, like a cat
-Second eyelid that closes horizontally beneath the other one (transparent and used as goggles when swimming or flying)
-Teeth are sharp in the front, flat in the back (Omnivores)
-Horns are common, usually only small/medium pair of single (not forked) horns
-Can have other types of horns, but they are rare
-No horns is also common
Forepaws/legs
-More feline, think big cat
-Forepaws/legs are thicker than a canine's
-Retractable claws
-Feline- or canine-like pawpads
Hindpaws/legs
-Canine/dragon in shape
-Long toe tendons
-Webbed toes
-Not-retractable claws
-Feline- or canine-like pawpads
Tail
-Long and floofy (unless cut, or a mutation)
-Longer than a wolf's
-Cat-like in flexibility
-Spiked, mace-like tips are fairly common
Wings
-Dragon/bat-like
-From shoulders, not attached to forelegs
-Always leathery or covered in scales, never fur
-Approx. 20 ft wingspan when wings are fully developed
Anatomy
Respiratory/ Cardiovascular / Circulatory system
-Do not need to breathe, do not have "lungs", instead have air-sacs that contain a flammable gas for spitting fire
-Cannot "breathe" fire, only spit it. (Like, they hock a loogie except, y'know, FIRE.)
-Still usually breathes like humans do to take in smells around them
-Blood is dark brown, sometimes greenish brown or reddish brown (NOT bright red cuz not oxygenated)
Digestive / Excretory system
-Saliva is mildly acidic and poisonous to many other species (Yes poisonous, not venomous. It is not recommended to French kiss them.)
-Omnivorous
-Can eat and gain nutrients from just about anything, even rocks
-High metabolism
-Food is almost immediately turned to liquid and processed
-Waste is only expelled in liquid/mostly liquid form out a small "penis-like" urethra between the hindlegs
Muscular / Skeletal system
-Bones are as strong as steel, but light like a bird's
-Very strong and fast for their size
-Despite those light bones, WCs are very thick, heavy creatures. They must build up a lot of chest/wings muscles to fly, and cannot fly for extended periods of time.
-Not usually graceful or sneaky due to their weight
Nervous system
-Extremely high pain tolerance
-High metabolism allows speedy healing (can recover from near-death in about 24 Earth hours)
-"Staking" them in the heart like a vampire will paralyze, but not kill them
-Significant brain damage is only known method of killing
Exocrine system
-Thick skin, but can still be punctured with sharp objects
-Scales (even belly scales) are even more resistant
-Skin, fur, and scales are flame-resistant, but extended, intense exposure to fire will cause damage
Reproductive system
-Do not have genders (or rather, have a single gender)
-Do not partake in "sex", tho they have a curiosity about it (and all other "weird" human things)
-How they reproduce:
There is a special sac near the stomach that contains cells similar to those of premature egg cells found in Earth creatures. To reproduce, one WC ingests another's DNA (usually blood) and then ingests their own. This opens the passage to the "egg sac". Both partner's DNA is then absorbed by an egg. After a few days, the egg is vomited up and then cared for by one or both parents until hatching.
The baby may stay in the egg from a few months, to years depending on outside conditions.
Eggs resemble gemstones, tho they are smooth in texture. Approx the size of the parents' skull without the muzzle.
Other facts:
- Life span is approximately 1,000 Earth years.
- Souls are not anchored to the body like humans are. Wolven Cats can learn to control this and have their souls/spirits/minds leave their body at will for short periods of time.
